Castner is back

FYI: Kevin Casner, big-armed bullpen guy, drafted again by TX in the 26th round. TX drafted him in the 10th round last year but he elected to return for his SR yr. Big financial mistake. His mechanics, control, and feel for pitching are all below average, and I guess they must be worse now, though he has a power arm and a slider that flashed plus, when it flashes at all...

  1. he is a redshirt junior; meaning he's got yet another year left of eligibility. I got to see him pitch this year and was up to 97 mph with a good slider. He should be a great addition if he decides to sign.

  2. yeah, I corrected that on my draft page -and added some updated info - as he was a sophomore last year.

He refused to sign with TX last year as they low-balled him due to some bone spurs they found during his medical. He had surgery after that but returned to school and had a year worse than last year.

The scouting report on him from last year is not encouraging. He gets the dreaded "little feel for pitching" label with poor command. A true long-shot in my estimation.

He has already said that he will sign fyi...
