Smoak promoted

per BBTIA.com according to - what else?- "baseball sources". Smoak didn't really merit a promotion in my estimation, having suffered a complete power outage since his activation from the DL. In general, while his plate discipline and walks/9 are among the tops in the minors, he has yet to find a nice balance between his power and plate discipline; sky's the limit when he finds that groove.

Possible implications of the promotion:
1. Davis will not be demoted
2. Gold may be released
3. MaxRam to the DL
4. Tracy to 1B in Frisco rather than Moreland

Couple of other roster issues of note:

Texas
Padz will throw a bullpen today in preparation for a Tuesday start.
Hambone's struggle's mean that he won't be activated from the DL until Sunday a the earliest and likely not until next week per JD.
Texas is rumored to be interested in Chien-Ming Wang, who will be owed 1.7 million after the trade deadline.

AAA
Brandon Boggs is out indefinitely with a dislocated shoulder. Frisco's Gentry could replace him once Hambone is activated but that would leave AA without a true CF.
Willie Eyre has been moved into the rotation to stretch him out as a long reliever proper.

AA
Frisco's Joe Torres has been dropped from the roster and may have been released.
Omar Poveda has been activated and will start today.
The remaining spot on the pitching staff may be being held open for the DL'd Schlact or Laughter.

A
Hickory's Doug Hogan has begun a rehab assignment with the AZL club.
