Prospecting: Matt Thompson

2009 PROFILE: Goldstein and fall instructs prospect-o-files have really hyped this guy but he has been very inconsistent and hittable in his first full season. His velo seems to be a bit erratic but that could be due to inaccurate league guns though the Spokane gun is pretty accuate. The thing that is most promising about him is that he has a nice bb/9 rate so I presume he commands his FB pretty well, and can throw his CB for strikes, with both pitches having above agerage potential. His change is below average given his BAA LHH, his SO rate remains lower than you would like, and his h/9 are are astronomical. So regardless of how much you are in love with the AA FB or CB that he flashes on occasion, he has some issues that could end up relegating him to the bullpen in the long-term.
