Prospecting: Miguel "Miggie" de los Santos
2009 PROFILE: Everyone loved Miggie in 2008, an easy guy to root for in his first year of post-TJ ball and tossing up that great CB and inducing stupefying swings. However, he has reportedly been held up in a kafkaesque bureaucratic nightmare in the DR as the MLB VISA team in charge of verifying his age was fired and a new report had to be undertaken. Previous reports had him "on the verge" of returning to thst states but that has yet to happen. Don't believe the hype just yet; just because the old report was trashed doesn't mean he's in the clear so believe it when you see him appear in his first Spokane/Hickory box score or see a report on him from instructs. As it statnds, losing a year of developement time after losing 1 1/2 years to TJ surgery, is a pretty big blow for him and likely limits his ceiling to a reliever as he will be 21.7 yo next year and has yet to appear in A-ball. His other problem, continued from last year, is that he has BA command and won't go far once you tack that additional obstacle on top of his prospect file. Despite his cult status - DSL phenom turned comeback player with a stupid curveball turned visa-victim DSL-superstar-closer - his future will be an uphill climb (and that is _if _ his age checks out).
