Beltre is on a 30 game tear that has seen him batting about .380. However, there are some warning signs:
First ~30 games: 9 walks (5 came in 2 games)
Next ~30 games: 2 walks
Breakdown of his May/June totals:
IF/F rate: 23%
Line Drive rate: 16.6%
This seems to be a case where the kid's terrific bat speed coupled with his aggressiveness bust the bell curve as he's getting lots of groundball hits without squaring balls well enough to sustain his run for the rest of the season. I don't think the run has been precipitated by an gargantuan (I so rarely get to use that word) improvement in pitch recognition. I'm not a believer in the kid but I'd be happy to be wrong.
