Omar Beltre will make a spot start on Wednesday for Texas. His last start was a very good one but his command out of the bullpen has been inconsistent and there are still lingering question marks about the long-term health of his shoulder and elbow which he injured back in winter ball 2008. He missed most of 2009, missed part of winter ball 2009, missed most of spring training and has been on and off the OKC DL over the course of the season. the kid might have a limited shelf life. A corresponding move must be made on the 25-man roster.
coolaid over at LSB charted Martin Perez's impressive outing on Monday. check it out.
Justin Miller to the DL. Tim Murphy to the DL.
I thought that Ovispo de los Santos topped out at 97 during his relief appearance a couple days ago when I saw a tweet from the Spokane trainer that he actually flashed 100. The last older 2-pitch reliever with command and pitchability issues who blew away short season hitters with his 100mph fastball is now looking for work: Reiner Bermudez. Velo ain't everything.
Short Season moves/notes
Johnny Gunter now on rehab assignment in th AZL.
Eddie Martinez, Danniel Rodriguez, Taylor Vail released.
Riley Cooper and Justin Gutsie (degenerative hip condition) placed on the restricted list.
Justin Jamison placed on the suspended list.
11th rd HS LHP Chris Hanna assigned to AZL.
Tim Stegall should go on a rehab assignment in the next 10 days or so per his blog.
Endy Chavez- currently rehabbing in AZL - has an opt out date of 7/1. I can't think of an argument for keeping Arias on the roster over Chavez, a terrific defensive outfielder, can you?
